DHAKA, Bangladesh: The Australian government has signed a humanitarian aid agreement worth 16 million Australian dollars, equivalent to approximately Tk 137 crore, with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to improve the quality of life of Rohingya refugees and local host communities in Bangladesh.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat in Dhaka, in the presence of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.
Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Rile and UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh Rana Flowers signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
The funding is part of Australia's ongoing humanitarian commitment to addressing the Rohingya crisis, which has seen more than one million Rohingya refugees living in Cox's Bazar following the Myanmar military's crackdown in Rakhine State in 2017. Bangladesh hosts the world's largest refugee settlement, with the camps placing significant pressure on local infrastructure, resources, and communities.
Further details on the specific programmes to be funded under the agreement were not immediately available.
